  • Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are often called the ‘great mimics’ because their symptoms can resemble so many other conditions. For many patients, this means years of uncertainty, misdiagnoses, and unanswered questions. NET Cancer Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about this often-overlooked disease. It’s a day to educate others, share our stories, and advocate for better understanding, research, and early diagnosis. Together, we can bring hope to those affected by NETs and work towards a future where these cancers are identified and treated promptly. The zebra is the mascot and international symbol for the neuroendocrine cancer community because of the term “zebra” used in the medical community to refer to rare diseases and conditions. In medical school, students are taught to focus on the most likely possibilities when making a diagnosis, which is why the phrase “When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras” is used. However, in the cancer world, […]

His observations of the planets did not support traditional theory, and he was one of the astronomers of the era that gave us our current understanding of planetary movement with the sun at the center of the solar system. Over the past couple years, about a dozen of my patients admitted to going to testosterone replacement clinics that are offered elsewhere in town, claiming that they felt like they were back in their 20s. The current FDA position which was taught when I was in medical school at […]
