As we head into the weekend, it’s the perfect time to soak up some sun but don’t forget your protection! July is UV Safety Month, and it’s a great reminder that while sunshine is good for the soul, too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can be harmful to your skin and eyes. Why UV Safety Matters: *Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S. *UV rays can also lead to eye damage, premature aging, and a weakened immune system. *Even on cloudy days, UV rays can sneak through, so daily protection matters. Simple Steps for a Safer Weekend in the Sun: *Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30+ (and reapply every 2 hours). *Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses. *Seek shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when UV rays are strongest. *Consider lightweight, long-sleeved clothing for extra protection. Taking care of your skin today means a healthier tomorrow. […]

Chronic Disease Day, Why Awareness Matters Every year on July 10th, we recognize Chronic Disease Day a day dedicated to raising awareness, fostering support, and encouraging action for those affected by chronic health conditions. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and autoimmune disorders affect 6 in 10 adults in the U.S. These conditions don’t just impact daily life, they often require long-term care, ongoing lifestyle changes, and emotional strength. Why It Matters Living with a chronic illness can be overwhelming. It often involves managing symptoms, medications, frequent doctor visits, and the emotional toll of living with an “invisible” condition. Many people with chronic diseases look healthy on the outside, but are fighting quiet battles every day. That’s why talking about chronic illness matters. Chronic Disease Day is a reminder to: • Educate others about these conditions • Empower patients to seek proper care • Encourage early detection and preventative […]

As we soak up the sunshine this summer, it’s important to remember that our skin needs protection too. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, can develop from too much sun exposure and it doesn’t take a sunburn to do damage. Protect Your Skin: *Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) *Reapply every 2 hours—and after swimming or sweating *Wear hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing *Stay in the shade during peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Know the Signs: Check your skin regularly for any spots or moles that are: *Asymmetrical *Have uneven borders *Change in color, size, or shape *Larger than a pencil eraser *Itching, bleeding, or not healing When in Doubt, Get It Checked Out If something on your skin doesn’t look or feel right, don’t wait, schedule a skin check! Let’s enjoy the summer safely, your skin is worth protecting.
