March often makes us think of green, fresh starts, springtime, and a new season ahead. But thereâs another important color this month: blue. đ
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to education, early detection, and prevention.
As we step into the first Monday of March, itâs the perfect reminder to prioritize something we often put off, our health.
⸝
Why This Matters
Colorectal cancer affects the colon or rectum and is one of the most common cancers in both men and women. The good news? It is highly treatable and often curable when caught early.
Screenings save lives. Early detection truly makes all the difference.
⸝
Signs & Symptoms to Watch For
Colorectal cancer can sometimes develop quietly, but there are symptoms you should never ignore:
⢠Changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation, or narrowing of stool) lasting more than a few days
⢠Blood in or on the stool (bright red or dark)
⢠Unexplained weight loss
⢠Persistent abdominal discomfort (cramping, gas, pain)
⢠A feeling that your bowel doesnât empty completely
⢠Ongoing fatigue or weakness
Even subtle changes can be important. Trust your body.
⸝
When Should You Call a Doctor?
đ Call your healthcare provider if:
⢠Symptoms last more than a couple of weeks
⢠You notice rectal bleeding
⢠You have ongoing abdominal pain
⢠You feel unusually fatigued without explanation
⢠You have a family history of colorectal cancer
⢠Youâre 45 or older and havenât scheduled a screening
Routine screenings are now recommended starting at age 45 for average-risk adults, sometimes earlier if you have risk factors.
⸝
Screening Options
Screenings may include:
⢠Colonoscopy
⢠Stool-based tests
⢠Flexible sigmoidoscopy
Your provider can help determine whatâs best for you based on your health history and risk level.
While green may symbolize March, letâs also wear blue with purpose. Use this first Monday as a fresh start, schedule that appointment, encourage a loved one to get screened, and have conversations that could save a life.
Early detection is powerful. Prevention is possible. And awareness starts with us.
If you have questions about screening or symptoms, donât wait. Reach out to your healthcare provider and take that step today.
Because your health deserves attention, this March and every month. đ
One thing about our office⌠we truly are a team. And when we get everyone together in one room, you know a quick selfie is going to happen! đ¸ This year is bringing exciting growth for our family practice, with several new services and opportunities coming that will benefit both our patients and our staff. Weâre grateful for a team that cares deeply about the people who walk through our doors every day. With all this growth, weâre also looking to add a Nurse or Medical Assistant to our amazing team. If you or someone you know would love working in a positive, patient-focused environment⌠tell them Tiffany sent you! đ Big things are coming this year, and we canât wait to share them with all of you.
Did you notice it stayed lighter a little longer last night? Thatâs because we just âsprang forwardâ with Daylight Saving Time! While losing an hour of sleep can feel a little rough on a Monday morning, the extra evening daylight brings a wonderful opportunity for something good, movement and fresh air. Daylight Saving Time was first widely adopted during World War I as a way to make better use of daylight hours and conserve energy. Over the years, it has become something many of us look forward to because it signals the approach of spring, longer days, and more time outside. And those longer evenings can be great for your health. That extra hour of daylight is the perfect reminder to: ⢠Take a walk after dinner ⢠Ride a bike with your family ⢠Play outside with the kids or grandkids ⢠Simply step outside for some fresh air and sunshine […]
A little rain today, but a whole weekend ahead of us. Sometimes a rainy day is natureâs way of reminding us to slow down, rest, and take care of ourselves. Use today as a small check-in with your health: â˘Drink a little extra water â˘Take a short walk when the rain lets up â˘Get some good rest this weekend â˘Choose something nourishing for your body Health doesnât have to be big changes all at once. Sometimes itâs just the small choices we make each day. From all of us at the office, we hope you stay warm, stay healthy, and enjoy the weekend ahead. If you need us, weâre always here for you.
